The Cascais / Estoril area of Lisbon is located on the Atlantic coast just a half an hour west of the city centre. It is an up-market suburb with easy access by local train to the delights of Lisbon city. Historically both Cascais and Estoril were important areas, being a refuge for the royalty and heads of government of European countries during WWII.

The town of Cascais was an old fishing village that now boasts a smart marina and the cobbled streets, lively bars and restaurants and quaint beach area make it a destination for everyone. Estoril has the famous casino, the largest in Europe, which even if you don't gamble is worth a quick visit. The romantic and fascinating town of Sintra, which inspired glowing accounts from Lord Byron, is only a short drive away.
