El Puerto de Santa Maria is a small attractive town on the Northeast coast of Cadiz province, Spain. It is a Spanish summer tourist destination although more and more foreigners are coming each year.

Fortunately El Puerto has escaped the mass tourism that blights many towns across the other side of Andalusia. There are quiet beaches on the outskirts of the old town and in from the river, you can enjoy the numerous small bars and restaurants.

The town is located in the main sherry region of Spain and boasts one of the oldest bullfighting rings in the country. From the river, a 20 minute boat ride can bring you to the beautiful city of Cadiz, alternatively the city of Jerez is only 15 minutes away by taxi. There are small shops and markets dotted all round the old town and there are shopping malls on the outskirts, letting you enjoy a truly unspoiled typical Andalusian experience.
