Tarragona lies on the Mediterranean coast about 100km south of Barcelona. It was historically an important city as the Romans controlled the region from here. There still are remnants of this time in history with the ancient walls and Amphitheatre still surviving in the old city. Modern Tarragona is much different, it still keeps the old charm but it is a lively city with plenty of bars and restaurants on La Rambla Nova and also in the harbour area.

Nightlife really happens at the weekends but even during the week you will find some interesting places to spend the evening and into the night. The old city is charming with small winding narrow streets and the beautiful Cathedral. The train station provides easy transportation to Barcelona for extra sightseeing but most people just love to spend their time in this marvellous city, which is compact enough to be walked.

Salou is only a couple of minutes drive away. It is the biggest resort area in the Costa Dorada region. There are plenty of the usual bars and restaurants and also the Port Aventura theme park. Good shopping and excellent beaches are plentiful and it is a very friendly resort.
